Let's get to know Oxford Nordberg
If you like him just call him "Ox" if you don't then you call him Oxford that way the two of you are on the same page.
On February 10, 1970, Jacoby J Dressell, changed his name to Oxford Christian Forbes Nordberg in 2005, was born in California, marking the start of a life filled with significant shifts and trials. His early years were characterized by frequent relocations, moving from the sunny climes of California to the lush greenery of Washington, and then to the historic ambiance of Palestine, Texas.
At eight years old, Jacoby's life took a pivotal turn when his mother, seeking to secure a future with a pilot who was reluctant to raise another man's child, sent Jacoby to live with Paul Dressell. This decision deeply impacted Jacoby, instilling in him a profound sense of mistrust, particularly towards women, as he grappled with the reality of his mother's choice.
Man, where do I even start? Let’s just say, after 54 years on this planet (at the time of this writing), I’ve got a treasure trove of stories filled with less-than-stellar decisions. Poor choices? I’ve made a few. Actually, more than a few. But here’s where things get interesting.
For a long time, I loved sharing my so-called “testimony” with anyone who’d listen. I was that guy—chest puffed out, standing tall, boldly telling the world how messed up my life used to be. And boy, did I love to blame everyone but myself: Mom, Dad, friends, my ex-wife, even my “ride or die” crew. It was never my fault—I was just misunderstood, right? Or maybe deceived, or completely unaware. That’s what I liked to think.
But here’s the kicker: I was tricked. Not by my past, but by my own pride. I thought I’d been delivered from my old ways when, really, I’d just traded in my sins for a shiny new version of pride. What I thought was a testimony about God’s glory was really just me patting myself on the back for surviving it all. The more I talked about my “hard-knock” childhood and how I turned it all around, the more I started to believe it was my story—my transformation, my success. It was like I was the prodigal son, the one sheep the shepherd left the 99 for—and I wanted everyone to know just how “bad” I was before my “amazing” comeback.
The truth? It was all about me, not God. Sure, I was happy to talk about how I’d been saved, but deep down, I was enjoying the spotlight just a little too much. The high I got from people’s reactions was a dead giveaway. I mean, who doesn’t love being the center of attention, right?
But thank God—literally—that He loves me enough to open my eyes. His love isn’t about making me look good. It’s about His grace, His mercy, and the fact that He’s the one who’s really been in control all along. I’m just thankful He never gave up on me, even when I was too busy giving myself credit for the work He was doing.
