Why I Love the Jewish People but Question America's Support for Secular Israel
By Oxford “Ox” Nordberg
As a Bible-believing Christian and candidate for Congress in Texas’s 30th District, I want to speak plainly and lovingly about a topic that weighs heavily on my heart: America’s relationship with Israel.
Let me be clear: I love the Jewish people. I honor their history, their resilience, and their role in God's redemptive plan. I especially cherish Messianic Jews—those who have come to know Yeshua (Jesus) as Messiah. They are a living testimony to the fulfillment of prophecy and the unity of Jew and Gentile in Christ.
But my love for the Jewish people does not mean I blindly support the secular government of Israel, especially when its actions conflict with God's Word.
What the Bible Says About Justice and Mercy
Isaiah 1:17 – “Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed.”
Proverbs 6:17 – God hates “hands that shed innocent blood.”
Micah 6:8 – “Act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God.”
Verified Actions by the Israeli Government That Conflict with God's Word
1. Collective Punishment in Gaza
Israel’s military campaigns have killed tens of thousands of civilians, including children.
“Innocent bloodshed violates Proverbs 6:17 and Ezekiel 18:20.”
2. Displacement and Discrimination
Palestinians face land seizures, unequal legal treatment, and restricted movement.
“Leviticus 19:33–34 commands love and fairness toward foreigners.”
Key Issues Beyond “Wiping Israel Off the Map”
Land and Borders – Palestinians seek sovereignty in occupied territories.
Jerusalem – Both sides claim it as their capital.
Settlements – Israeli expansion fragments Palestinian land.
Freedom of Movement – Gaza is under blockade; West Bank has checkpoints.
Refugees – Millions of Palestinians want the right to return.
Water Control – Israel controls most water sources.
Uncharged Prisoners – Thousands held without trial.
Each of these issues raises serious biblical concerns about justice, mercy, and stewardship.
America's Financial and Military Support: A Double Standard?
Since 1948, the U.S. has given over $300 billion in aid to Israel. Since October 7, 2023, the U.S. has provided $21.7 billion in arms alone—with special privileges no other country receives:
Unique Privileges Israel Receives:
Off-Shore Procurement – Israel can use U.S. aid to buy weapons from Israeli companies.
Cash-Flow Financing – Israel can commit future U.S. aid before it's even approved.
War Reserve Stock – U.S. stores weapons in Israel for Israeli use.
Interest-Bearing Accounts – Aid earns interest in Israel’s Federal Reserve account.
30-Day Disbursement Rule – Congress must release funds to Israel within 30 days.
Qualitative Military Edge Law – U.S. must ensure Israel has superior weapons to all neighbors.
These privileges are not granted to NATO allies, nor to countries like Japan, South Korea, or Ukraine.
My Prayer and My Position
I pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6). I pray for revival among Jews and Gentiles alike. I pray that America would align its foreign policy not with political convenience, but with biblical righteousness.
As a candidate, I will stand with the Jewish people—but I will not support any government, including Israel’s, when its actions go against the will of God.
